SMS Verbal Consent

Last updated: July 5, 2026

AnswerCove is an AI receptionist used by local businesses such as plumbing, HVAC, and other home services to answer calls and book appointments. When the assistant books an appointment for a caller, it may offer to text them a confirmation. This page documents how that verbal opt-in works.

Consent is optional. The appointment is booked during the call whether or not the caller agrees to a text. Agreeing to receive a text is never required to book an appointment, use the service, or complete any transaction. If the caller declines, no text is sent and they still receive full service.

The consent language

Before sending any text, the assistant offers the confirmation and makes the required disclosures in plain language. This is the standard consent language the assistant uses:

Assistant: "Want me to text you a confirmation? Standard message and data rates may apply, and you can reply STOP anytime to opt out."

A text is sent only after the caller clearly agrees, for example by saying "yes" or "sure." If the caller says no or seems unsure, no text is sent and the assistant does not bring it up again. The confirmation text itself includes the appointment details and ends with "Reply STOP to opt out."

What this consent covers

  • Message content: a single automated appointment confirmation text from the business the caller phoned.
  • Frequency: one confirmation per appointment. No marketing or promotional messages are sent under this consent.
  • Rates: standard message and data rates may apply.
  • Opt out: reply STOP to any message to opt out at any time. The first text includes "Reply STOP to opt out."
  • Help: reply HELP to any message for help. STOP and HELP keywords are honored on every number we send from.
  • Explicit consent: a text is sent only after the caller clearly agrees on the call. If they decline, no text is sent.

How consent is recorded

Calls handled by AnswerCove are transcribed. The transcript of the call, together with the caller's phone number and a timestamp, is retained as the record of the caller's consent, including the assistant's disclosure and the caller's agreement.

Consent is never bought, sold, or shared. A caller's mobile number and SMS opt-in are never shared with third parties or affiliates for their marketing purposes.
